October 2005

For their Make A Difference Day project, the US Army Unit A-1 Company 1st Battalion 21st Infantry spent the morning at the Kalihi Baptist Church Keiki O Ka Aina preschool to build a tire playground and do much needed yard work.

With donations from the Kalihi Lex Brodie, Discount Tires and others, the soldiers turned the old tires into a tree swing, a lo`i, stepping stairs, a U shaped bench for story time, and an extremely cool car with a steering wheel.

KHON Channel 2 News and Trini Kaopuiki were on hand with a Live morning telecast and interviewed Keiki O Ka Aina's Kanoe Naone, Momi Akana, and others from the Army unit. The Make A Difference event coincided with a Keiki O Ka Aina's staff development meeting at the same location and gave the chance for Keiki O Ka Aina to extend their gratitude to the soldiers by gathering together to sing Oli Mahalo and extend warm hugs and appreciation.
