Lokahi Gift to Children of Incarcerated Parents
Decmber 2005

Atlantis Adventures gave a special Lokahi gift to children and families of incarcerated parents on board their Navatek Cruise Ship. About 250 children and adults from Keiki O Ka Aina Family Learning Centers Prison Mentoring program and New Hope's Angel Tree Project were joined by Lokahi sponsors Leslie Wilcox of the KHON Channel 2 News and McNeil Wilson Communications for a day of whale watching off Oahu's beautiful south shore.

On board, a continental breakfast was also part of the Lokahi gift for everyone and Susie - our whale watching tour guide gave the keiki and families a primer on Hawaiian Humpback whales. To demostrate the size of a whale's tail, Susie called on keiki volunteers to help stretch out an actual sized tail made of fabric.

Outside on the observation decks, a picture perfect day with clear skies and calm waters greeted the reciepients of the Lokahi gift. Our voyage took us out past Diamond Head and down to Portlock where we made the turn for our return trip back to Honolulu Harbor. Along the way Susie taught us about whales, the sounds that they make, and spoted the blows of whales in the distance. On our return a whale's tail was spotted by those that were on the port (left) side of the Navatek.

Upon returning from the cruise the Navatek docked to an awaiting Santa with helpers that presented gifts to all the keiki that were on the trip. The presents were also donated by Atlantis Adventures and the staff of Atlantis Adventures, McNeil Wilson Communications, and Keiki O Ka Aina helped hand out the gifts to the keiki.
