AIM-HI is a home-based preschool curriculum designed to give Native
Hawaiian children ages 3 and 4 a jump start on school readiness. This program has adopted Queen Kapi‘olani‘s motto Kulia I Ka Nu‘u which means 'strive for the highest peak'. This motto conveys the objective and name of this project, which is to AIM-HI for our children's future. The curriculum is an experiential integration of the Montessori approach and Hawaiian culture. Children will learn through direct observation of and active engagement with their parent.
While other home instruction programs are generally written at the most basic level of development and achievement, developers of the AIM-HI curriculum recognize that high levels of ability and achievement exist within every child despite socio-economic challenges. Therefore, every lesson is written with increasing levels of difficulty to allow each child to be successful at their own pace.
AIM-HI meets the developmental needs of the child requiring support and strengthening of basic preschool skills while also providing challenging experiences for gifted youngsters. Participating children will also receive free developmental screenings and evaluations.
AIM-HI was written by experienced educators with years of direct preschool teaching experience, certification by the American Montessori Society, fluency in Hawaiian language, and deep knowledge of Hawaiian values and traditions. The curriculum is cutting edge and gives Native Hawaiian children the building blocks for kindergarten success in a Hawaiian way.
